Does anyone know how to best remove ash from the bottom of a spa?

My pool has ash all over the bottom after all the fires in So.Cal. The automatic pool cleaner is picking most of it up in the pool, but it doesn't clean the spa. Should I drain the spa, or is there some way to clean the water?
